Technical Development Program (TDP) - PDHs for PEs - Melrose Park, IL

This class meets for 3 to 4 hours per week for 11 weeks. The course is geared toward commercial building HVAC system designers, but all are welcome.

This class qualifies for up to (30) thirty hours of continuing education for Illinois and Wisconsin Professional Engineers. Students must attend 8 of the 11 sessions to receive a PDH certificate.

Residential HVAC Service Fundamentals (multi-week class, hands-on) - NATE, FAD, & Elite hrs - Melrose Park, IL

This class meets a half day per week for 9 weeks. Class size is limited to 15 due to the hands-on nature. Much of the time will be spent in our live-fire lab which includes furnaces, boilers, A/C, etc.
Please bring hand tools, electrical meter (volts and amps), digital dual-port manometer, and R-454b gauges to class each week.
Module 1 - ABCs of Comfort
Module 2 - Basic Electrical Troubleshooting - read wiring diagrams, use a volt meter, measure amperage
Module 3 - Furnace Component Break Down plus Clean & Check - furnaces in the lab will be disassembled and re-assembled then we utilize O&M manuals to properly clean furnaces and check safeties
Module 4 - Furnace Troubleshooting - how to use a manometer or mag gauge to measure pressure, troubleshooting with a voltmeter, reading error codes, adjusting airflow, etc.
Module 5 - Boiler Service - component identification, basic piping, and how to clean a boiler
Module 6 - A/C and Heat Pump Charging & Maintenance - basic operation and troubleshooting, using refrigerant gauges and superheat to check charge arrangement
Module 7 - Ecobee Smart Thermostats - install, setup, and programming
Module 8 - Ductless Mini-split Installation and Service
Module 9 - Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Basics – Filtration, Evolution/Infinity air purifier, UV lights, PCO duct air purifiers, and bi-polar ionizers for functions, installation, and maintenance
Must attend at least 6 modules to earn 24 "FAD Distributor" or "Elite Distributor" hours.
Each module earns 4 NATE hours (except module 1) and credit can be awarded individually for each module. Note: smart stat module is only 3 NATE hours.

Carrier/Bryant/ICP Crossover Inverter Heat Pump Install & Service – NATE, FAD, Elite, & ComEd hrs - Melrose Park, IL

OVERVIEW:This training course provides the participants with an overview of Carrier/Bryant 37MU and Heil/Day&Night D5CU Crossover units which allow the usage of a horizontal discharge mini-split inverter with a standard furnace or air handler fan coil. The course will include installation requirements, operating characteristics and a general overview of service and troubleshooting procedures.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:The target audience includes HVAC technicians and installers. Attendees should have a general understanding of air conditioning systems, refrigerants, installation and service procedures.
REQUIRED TOOLS: electrical meter with micro-leads and basic hand-tools
OUTLINE:
- Introduction of product (including models, capacities, voltages, etc.)
- Application of R-454B refrigerant
- Installation requirements and procedures
- Operating characteristics
- Fault codes
- Servicing and Diagnostic procedures
- Refrigerant piping lengths and charging procedures

Carrier OPEN BACnet Controls & Service Tools
We will discuss the Carrier OPEN product line, different controllers / sensors you may see in the field, and then make sure everyone has the software loaded on their laptops, and can successfully connect to controllers.
RTU OPEN Controller
We will discuss installation and wiring, sequence of operation, programming, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting. This is for constant volume and Staged Air Volume (SAV) RTU under 25 tons.
VVT OPEN Controllers
We will discuss installation and wiring, sequence of operation, programming, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting for Variable Volume and Temperature (VVT) zoning systems.
UPC OPEN Controllers
We will discuss installation and wiring, sequence of operation, programming, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting. This is for chillers, condensing units, and RTUs greater than 25 tons.
VAV OPEN Controllers
We will discuss installation and wiring, sequence of operation, programming, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting for Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems.
i-Vu OPEN Web Interface
We will discuss installation and wiring, sequence of operation, programming, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting for Carriers web-based interface tool. Custom graphics will not be covered in this particular course but a follow-up course is offered to introduce you to the Viewbuilder tool.

Certified Ductless Pro - NATE, FAD, Elite, & ComEd hrs - Melrose Park, IL

This class is normally only taught in Indianapolis for $1,600 but is being offered this year in Melrose Park for $895 PLUS it also includes the $450 diagnostic tool. This is a limited time class price and tool inclusion.
This 3-day training course is only one portion of the requirements to become certified by Carrier or Bryant. There are also 4 online training modules, as well as as business requirements (signed agreement, insurance, brand loyalty, etc), and you must already be a Bryant or Carrier FAD.
Included: Handheld Midea/Carrier Ductless Diagnostic Service Tool ($450 value) and Lunch for 3 days
Ductless & Crossover Foundations:Installation & Start-up
In this course, participants will learn about the proper application, installation, startup, and basic troubleshooting of Ductless and Crossover Solutions. After completing this course, the participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of DLS technology, equipment and application
- Interpret and apply installation instructions and installation techniques
- Demonstrate and apply accepted DLS best practices
- Perform DLS system start up and commissioning
- Evaluate existing installations to avoid problems
REQUIRED TOOLS: torque wrench, R-410A/R-454B flaring tool, reamer, pipe cutter, 2 adjustable wrenches, electrical meter with micro-leads, and basic hand-tools
