Technical Development Program (TDP) - PDHs for PEs - Melrose Park, IL

This class meets for 3 to 4 hours per week for 11 weeks. The course is geared toward commercial building HVAC system designers, but all are welcome.

Topics include:

WEEK 1 - Concepts of Air Conditioning

WEEK 2 - Psychometrics & Refrigeration Cycle

WEEK 3 - Load Estimating

WEEK 4 - System Selection

WEEK 5 - Duct Design

WEEK 6 - Airside Equipment: RTUs, Air Handlers, Fan Coils

WEEK 7 - Water Piping & Pumps

WEEK 8 - Chiller Plants

WEEK 9 - Direct Digital Controls (DDC)

WEEK 10 - Indoor Air Quality & Filtration

WEEK 11 - Energy Recovery and Wrap-Up Topics

This class qualifies for up to (30) thirty hours of continuing education for Illinois and Wisconsin Professional Engineers. Students must attend 8 of the 11 sessions to receive a PDH certificate.

You will learn the basics of a hydronic system and how to improve it. Topics covered will include:

1. Hydronic System Fundamentals: Basic components, piping arrangement types, controls, maintenance

2. Condensing Boilers: Energy vs. old cast-iron, operation, controls, and maintenance, retro-fit considerations

3. Energy Audits: Upgrade to new equipment or modify existing, sizing a replacement boiler, energy savings calculation

4. Dos and Don'ts

5. Introduction to Additional Energy Saving Concepts: Radiant heating, Variable speed pumping, Combining low and high efficient boilers, Indirect water heater tanks for domestic water

Lunch is provided.

This class qualifies for 7 hours of continuing education for Illinois and Wisconsin Professional Engineers.
